Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Formed in 1996, the band rose to international fame with their debut album Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005 and multi-platinum in several other countries.[1] Their following studio album Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200 album chart in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world.[2] In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium.[3] Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade chart.[4] The band was recently voted as the greatest artist of '00s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1.[5]
Having adapted nu metal and rap metal to a radio-friendly yet densely layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora,[6][7][8] the band explored other genres in their next studio album, Minutes to Midnight (2007).[9][10] The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third-best debut week of any album that year.[11][12] The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types in their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds and beats. Their most recent work, Living Things (2012), combines musical elements from all of their previous records. The band has collaborated with several other artists, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mashup EP Collision Course, and many others on Reanimation and Recharged.[7] Linkin Park has sold over 60 million albums worldwide and has won two Grammy Awards.
Linkin Park es una banda estadounidense de rock procedente de Agoura Hills, California. Formada en 1996, el grupo estuvo inicialmente integrado por Mike Shinoda, Dave Farrell, Joe Hahn, Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon y Mark Wakefield, este último como voz principal. La banda inició en ese mismo año sus primeros trabajos musicales de manera independiente y posterior a esto grabaron su primer material llamado Xero; sin embargo no tuvieron gran éxito en la búsqueda de un sello discográfico ya que ninguno mostró interés en su trabajo, lo que ocasionó la renuncia de Mark Wakefield.2 Poco después, Chester Bennington se incorporó a la banda como vocalista; el grupo realizó su primera presentación en un club de Los Ángeles y siendo respaldados por Jeff Blue, en aquel entonces vicepresidente de Warner Bros. Records, lograron firmar con el sello en 1999. El nombre del grupo es un juego de palabras haciendo referencia al Lincoln Park en Santa Mónica.2 5
En el 2000 el grupo lanzó su álbum debut titulado Hybrid Theory;6 de este se extrajeron los sencillos «Crawling», «Papercut», «In the End» y «One Step Closer»; los últimos dos, obtuvieron certificación de disco de oro en Australia.7 Hybrid Theory alcanzó el puesto número dos en el Billboard 200, fue el séptimo álbum más vendido de la década del 2000,8 y lo certificaron con disco de diamante en los Estados Unidos y múltiple disco de platino en Europa.9 10 11 El cuarto sencillo del álbum, «In the End», alcanzó su mejor posición en el segundo puesto de la lista Billboard Hot 100, y se quedó en ella por treinta y ocho semanas.12
En 2003, la banda lanzó su primer álbum en directo titulado Live in Texas, grabado en el Reliant Stadium, en Houston, Texas.13 El disco obtuvo múltiples certificaciones de oro en Alemania, Nueva Zelanda, Reino Unido y Austria.14 15 16 17 Posteriormente, en 2008, lanzaron otro álbum en vivo titulado Road to Revolution: Live at Milton Keynes.
