The Cranberries are an Irish rock band who formed in Limerick in 1989. The band consists of vocalist Dolores O'Riordan, guitarist Noel Hogan, bassist Mike Hogan and drummer Fergal Lawler. Although widely associated with alternative rock, the band's sound also incorporates indie pop, post-punk, Irish folk and pop rock elements.[1]
The Cranberries rose to international fame in the 1990s with their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, which became a commercial success. The group was one of the most successful rock acts of the '90s and sold over 40 million albums worldwide. The band has achieved four top 20 albums on the Billboard 200 chart (Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?; No Need to Argue; To the Faithful Departed and Bury the Hatchet)[2] and eight top 20 singles on the Modern Rock Tracks chart ("Linger", "Dreams", "Zombie", "Ode to My Family", "Ridiculous Thoughts", "Salvation", "Free to Decide" and "Promises").[2]
After a six-year hiatus, The Cranberries reunited and began a North American tour, followed by dates in Latin America and Europe in early 2010.[3][4] The band recorded their sixth album, Roses, in May 2011, and released it on 27 February 2012.

Nirvana was an American rock band formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era.[1][2]
In the late 1980s Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene, releasing its first album Bleach for the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989. The band eventually came to develop a sound that relied on dynamic contrasts, often between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses. After signing to major label DGC Records, Nirvana found unexpected success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first single from the band's second album Nevermind (1991). Nirvana's sudden success widely popularized alternative rock as a whole, and the band's frontman Cobain found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation", with Nirvana being considered the "flagship band" of Generation X.[3] Nirvana's third and final studio album, In Utero (1993), featured an abrasive, less-mainstream sound and challenged the group's audience. The album did not match the sales figures of Nevermind but was still a critical and commercial success. Nirvana's brief run ended following the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, but various posthumous releases have been issued since, overseen by Novoselic, Grohl, and Cobain's widow Courtney Love.
Since its debut, the band has sold over 25 million records in the United States alone, and over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists in history. Four of their albums, two studio and two live, have reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. In the years since the band's breakup, Nirvana has been ranked highly on several lists by various publications as one of the greatest artists of all time. Rolling Stone described Nirvana's influence as having "kicked in" the 1990s as a musical era,[4] adding that their music "guaranteed the nineties would not suck,"[5] and claimed that the band "transformed rock for a generation."[6] According to the magazine, "few bands in rock history have had a more immediate and tangible impact on their contemporary pop musical landscape than Nirvana did in the early Nineties."

Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band that formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1985. The classic lineup as signed to Geffen Records in 1986, consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler. Today, Axl Rose is the only remaining original member, in a lineup that comprises Use Your Illusion–era keyboardist Dizzy Reed, lead guitarists DJ Ashba and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, lead and rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer, and keyboardist Chris Pitman. The band released six studio albums, accumulating sales of more than 100 million records worldwide,[9] including shipments of 45 million in the United States,[10] making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time.
A year after its release, Guns N' Roses' debut album Appetite for Destruction (1987) reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, on the strength of the hit "Sweet Child o' Mine", their only single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.[11] The album has sold in excess of 28 million copies worldwide,[12] including 18 million units sold in the United States, making it the best-selling debut album of all time in the U.S.[13] The success of their debut was followed by the eight-song album G N' R Lies (1988). The twin albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II (1991) debuted at No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and have sold a combined 35 million copies worldwide,[14] including 14 million units sold in the United States alone.[13] The cover album "The Spaghetti Incident?" (1993) was the band's last studio album to feature Slash and McKagan. After more than a decade of work and many lineup changes, Guns N' Roses released the long-awaited album Chinese Democracy (2008) which, at an estimated $14 million in production costs, made it the most expensive album to ever be produced in music history.[15][16][17] It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 but underwhelmed industry expectations, despite mostly positive critical reception.[18]

Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Formed in 1996, the band rose to international fame with their debut album Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005 and multi-platinum in several other countries.[1] Their following studio album Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200 album chart in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world.[2] In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium.[3] Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade chart.[4] The band was recently voted as the greatest artist of '00s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1.[5]
Having adapted nu metal and rap metal to a radio-friendly yet densely layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora,[6][7][8] the band explored other genres in their next studio album, Minutes to Midnight (2007).[9][10] The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third-best debut week of any album that year.[11][12] The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types in their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds and beats. Their most recent work, Living Things (2012), combines musical elements from all of their previous records. The band has collaborated with several other artists, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mashup EP Collision Course, and many others on Reanimation and Recharged.[7] Linkin Park has sold over 60 million albums worldwide and has won two Grammy Awards.

August Burns Red is an American Christian metalcore band, from Manheim, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2003, the group began their first performances while a majority of the members were attending their senior year of high school, and soon began playing shows around Lancaster, before being signed to CI Records, and afterward, Solid State Records. The group is primarily known for their heavy breakdowns and odd-meter riffs. They cite Between the Buried and Me, Misery Signals and Hopesfall as their main influences.
August Burns Red was founded in March 2003 when all the members were attending high school.[1] The original practice sessions of the band began in drummer, Matt Greiner's old egg house and basement on the Greiner family's farmland. After playing many local shows within Lancaster, they recorded their first EP, titled Looks Fragile After All with label CI Records in 2004.[2]
Vocalist Jon Hershey eventually quit the band during the same year, which led to Josh McManness to take on the position as lead singer,[3] and after several months of playing with McManness, August Burns Red signed to Solid State Records in 2005.[4] Hershey would later go on to form post-rock band Bells.[5][better source needed][6][better source needed] August Burns Red released Thrill Seeker, their first full-length album, on November 8, 2005. In 2006, drummer Matt Greiner was endorsed by Truth Custom Drums following the release of the album.

Element Eighty was a four-piece nu metal band from Tyler, Texas. The band formed in 2000. The band split in 2006, only to be reunited a few months later in 2007. Their first album was named after the chemical element mercury, which has number eighty in the Periodic Table of the Elements.
Element Eighty formed in 1998, and self-released their debut album Mercuric on June 21, 2001. In April 2003, the band signed a deal with Universal/Republic Records. Their self titled album Element Eighty was released on October 28, 2003. The band toured with such artists as Sevendust, Mudvayne, 3 Doors Down, Slipknot, Shinedown, Korn, Hellyeah, Ill Niño, Flaw, 40 Below Summer and Mushroomhead.[citation needed] The song "Broken Promises" was featured on the Need for Speed: Underground video game soundtrack. The song also peaked at No. 36 on the U.S. mainstream rock charts.[2]
After several months of touring, the band could see that their label had no interest in pushing the band[citation needed] -- there was no music video or any kind of promotion. The band would later split with Universal/Republic late 2004. Soon after their departure, original bassist Roon decided to leave the band to attend college and later graduate study in biomedical research. He was later replaced by Zack Bates, formerly of the bands Bullet Ant and Serosia.
The band released their third album The Bear on November 5, 2005 via their own label, Texas Cries Records. The album was only made available through the band's official website, at shows, and on iTunes.
After reluctantly disbanding in December 2006, Element Eighty have since reunited as of May 2007. They have recently begun recording their 4th album, but according to their Myspace page the recording has been extremely slowed down due to personal issues.
They have since announced the end of Element Eighty.
Ryan Carroll is now playing with the Dallas based band AdaKaiN, which also included Matt Woods for a brief stint.

Switchfoot is an American alternative rock band from San Diego, California. The band's members are Jon Foreman (lead vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass guitar, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums, percussion), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Drew Shirley (guitar, backing vocals). After early successes in the Christian rock scene, Switchfoot first gained mainstream recognition with the inclusion of four of their songs in the 2002 movie A Walk to Remember. This recognition led to their major label debut, The Beautiful Letdown, which was released in 2003 and featured the hits "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move". It went on to sell over 2.6 million copies. They have since been noted for their energetic live shows,[6][7][8] and their seventh studio album Hello Hurricane received a Grammy award in 2011 for Best Rock Gospel Album.
According to Jon Foreman, the name "Switchfoot" is a surfing term. "We all love to surf and have been surfing all our lives so to us, the name made sense. To switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It's about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music.

Según Jon Foreman, el nombre «Switchfoot» es un término utilizado en el ámbito del surf. «A todos nosotros nos encanta el surf y lo hemos practicado toda nuestra vida por lo que, para nosotros, el nombre tiene sentido. Posicionar tus pies significa tomar una nueva postura que enfrente la dirección opuesta. Se refiere al cambio y al movimiento, una manera de aproximarse a la vida y a la música.»
Algunas de sus canciones aparecen en la película 'Un paseo para recordar'. Fueron escogidos para participar de la banda sonora de la segunda entrega de la película Las Crónicas de Narnia, «El Príncipe Caspian» (interpretan el tema principal titulado «This is Home».) así como en Spiderman 2. También han sido escogidos para las BSO de varias series, entre ellas 'Los 4400'
